Print Irish Campaign

Print Irish

Introducing the Print Irish campaign
Print Irish is a brand new initiative that aims towards putting a public face on the Irish printing industry. Printing in more recent years has become to be viewed as a somewhat generic service. Little thought is given to the thousands of jobs the printing industry supports and the high quality, good value service provided by a technology driven, high skilled indigenous workforce. Just as the Intel Inside campaign transformed Intel from yet another semi-conductor manufacturer to a criteria of selection for computer hardware, the Print Irish campaign aims to encourage the Irish marketplace to support their own fellow workers and identify print that has originated on home soil.

What will it do for the printer?
The Print Irish campaign is the public face of the Irish printing industry. Being a part of this campaign allows you to carry the distinctive Print Irish identity on all work produced domestically. It also allows you to become a part of a bigger initiative, with common marketing and shared resources becoming available to focus the attention of those buying print domestically to the services provided by the local marketplace.

What will it do for the print purchaser?
The Print Irish campaign will allow print purchasers to demonstrate their commitment and support for Irish jobs and services. Supporting a Print Irish member allows you to carry the Print Irish identity on all your domestically printed goods. At a time where indigenous industry is coming under its greatest strain in decades, support for the domestic marketplace will not go unnoticed by the general public. Becoming part of this initiative will allow companies to share in the promotion activities of the Print Irish campaign.

Your membership of the Print Irish campaign will do the following

  • Carry the Print Irish identity on your goods in order to demonstrate your commitment to Irish goods, services and manufacturing
  • Clearly differentiate domestic suppliers of print from non-domestic suppliers of print
  • Unite the Irish printing industry under one common flag
  • Contribute to an industry war chest, enabling the Irish print and packaging sector to market itself more effectively and pool its collective resources for the greater good
  • Enable the 19,000 employees in 700 printing companies throughout Ireland to demonstrate their commitment to those companies who buy Irish print

Print Irish objectives

  • Inform the general public that a publication has been printed in Ireland
  • Combat the problem of print being produced non-domestically
  • Generate awareness that Irish print is focused on service, not price
  • Create a value system so companies in Ireland are supportive of the Irish print industry going forward
  • Promote jobs within the industry and encourage new consumers of print to support Irish industry.

What to I need to do to be a Print Irish member?
The Print Irish campaign charges a small fee based on the number of staff employed. Funds collected will be used to promote Print Irish members and further the cause of our industry. Already, 30 printers have signed up to become Print Irish members. It has also been supported by Ireland’s largest indigenous print management company who have committed their €9 million spend to the domestic market. Other high-volume purchasers of print have expressed interest in the scheme and further talks are underway to have them become part of this initiative.

Industry War Chest - The funds raised will be used as follows:

  • PR and marketing to create a greater awareness of the capabilities of our industry and Print Irish members
  • Research under the Freedom of Information Act
  • Legal advice and challenges to contracts awarded contrary to European legislation
  • Monitoring of VAT evasion
  • Hosting of a Print and Packaging Appreciation Awards for customers who support the Irish printing industry
